Department of Gender Equality of the Executive Yuan Promotes Gender Equality in Businesses

Due to recent media attention on foreign laborers, the Executive Yuan has requested that government agencies create protective mechanisms that can help prevent sexual harassment or gender discrimination in the workplace and has asked the Labor Affairs Council to supervise the dispatch agencies about laborers safety and rights. Given also that caretakers in Taiwan have primarily been women, the DGE will hold development seminars in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung to educate and change the stereotype, as well as promote women’s interest across the nation.

In addition to domestic efforts, the DGE will also participate in the “2012 APEC Workshop: Market Entry – Government Procurement Includes Businesswomen” to draw from the experiences of other countries and promote greater women’ s participation.
