2016 Gender Spectrum Professionals’ Symposium
Date:8 July ,2016/ Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga, CA
The Gender Spectrum Professionals’ Symposium is ideal for professionals that work with transgender and other gender-expansive youth and/or their families. Participants will take part in programming, activities and immediately accessible resources designed to build the capacity of professionals for working with families and young people around issues of gender.

Key Dates:
  • July 3 – Last day to register online
  • July 8 – Gender Spectrum Professionals’ Symposium
Workshops are planned to explore gender within a variety of disciplines – education, medicine, the law, mental health/counseling, social services, and child welfare. Beyond practical applications within these areas, questions about the ways in which race, religion, class and other aspects of identity impact a young person’s gender experience will also be featured. Moreover, the importance of collaboration across fields will underscore the day’s learning.

Programming at this year’s event is designed to respond to attendees’ broad range of professional experience in the field of gender affirmative care and support. Workshops for those that are just beginning in the field of gender-affirmative care will be offered alongside more in-depth sessions for case-specific consultations and advanced topics. Expert practitioners from across disciplines will lead the variety of sessions. There will also be opportunity to meet with colleagues and develop new relationships that will help strengthen your work with youth and their families. Altogether, the day will provide the information and tools needed to further help the young people we support to effectively navigate their world. The program and schedule for the event will be published later this spring.

The Gender Spectrum Conference
In the past, many professionals attending Friday’s event have also found it useful to participate in the companion Gender Spectrum Conference. Also taking place at Saint Mary’s College of California, this conference will occur on July 9 – 10, and provides a unique opportunity to participate in programming and activities specifically designed for families with transgender and non-binary children and teens.
