Women in Business - Experiential Learning Program in Rwanda
Title: Rwanda: Women & leadership
Host: Global Engagement Institute (GEI)
Date: Aug 30- Sep 5, 2014
Delegation leader(s): Prof. Shirley Randell, AO, PhD
Women and girls in Rwanda face many challenges with regard to their economic empowerment, from access to education and vocational training, to domestic expectations, social support and access to financial resources. In spite of these obstacles, female entrepreneurs continue to thrive and dominate both the manufacturing and agricultural sectors as business owners in Rwanda’s economy. GEI invites passionate and open-minded individuals to experience firsthand the resilience, dedication and commitment of the women of Rwanda both to their own economic empowerment and to the long-term sustainable development of their home country.
The Women in Business program features direct and interactive engagement with the women of Rwanda in an entrepreneurial context. On this eye-opening journey, participants will have the opportunity to observe first-hand the various social and economic challenges women face in Rwanda with regard to their economic empowerment, as well as the many triumphant successes they’ve achieved over the years.
This delegation will be led by internationally-celebrated gender expert Dr. Shirley Randell (AO, PhD). As a long-time resident of Rwanda, a global gender consultant and a university professor within the country, Dr. Randell will offer unique insights into the state of business and entrepreneurship for women in Rwanda.
Unfolding in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week, this journey is designed to not only inspire participants, but also to empower them personally and professionally to contribute to the ongoing positive development of women’s economic empowerment in Rwanda.
