APEC women’s forum concludes in Taipei
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Conference: Innovation and ICT for Women Business wrapped up June 29 in Taipei City, identifying new ways of boosting business opportunities and improving the livelihoods of women through information and communication technology.
“Taiwan’s public and private sectors, along with nongovernmental organizations, are pursuing multichannel measures to bridge the digital divide for women and help them run businesses,” ROC Minister without Portfolio Luo Ying-shay said at the opening ceremony of the conference.
“We are willing to share our experiences in innovation and ICT applications in this key area and are working to strengthen the ability of women to make a living through harnessing the power of ICT.”
Attracting more than 150 representatives and experts from 13 APEC economies, the two-day event was staged by Taipei-based Foundation of Women’s Rights Promotion and Development under the auspices of the ROC Cabinet’s Department for Gender Equality, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection. It is also part of APEC’s three-year working plan “Innovation for Women and Economic Development: Facilitating Women’s Livelihood Development and Resilience with ICTs.”
Participants highlighted successes in facilitating ICT-based women’s business development and sustainable entrepreneurship models. All conclusions and suggestions will be tabled at the third APEC Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy meeting, as well as Small and Medium Enterprises Working Group and PPWE ministerial meetings, set for September in Indonesia.
